8 Reasons to Avoid Deep Fried Foods for Better Health

When it comes to party snacks, mouth-watering cheese crust pizza, tempting French fries, lip smacking aloo tikkis, crispy wafers and scrumptious paneer cheese bread roll the list goes on and on and on!! That’s the woven magic of deep fried foods on us. It’s just so hard to get away from it.

But only few people know munching on these dead fried foods has many detrimental side effects on our health. It is true that eating deep fried food on a regular basis can actually shorten our life!!!

Still many commercial advertisers promote unhealthy fried foods just to fill their own pockets. We can’t completely blame them. Today’s lifestyle is such that it rotates 24*7 around junk food. We prefer deep fried food over steamed or fresh food. Choose aerated drinks more over mineral water and eat packed processed food instead of freshly home cooked ones.

But that doesn’t mean we should just keep on hogging on fried stuff whenever possible without considering the fact that they are harmful for our body.

Here is the 10 negative health effects deep fried food cause on our body:

 1)      High Calorie Count:

Deep fried foods are high in fats and calories. As fried foods are usually coated in batter before frying the oil in it gets replaced with natural water in the food as it is being cooked, absorbing all the fat which ultimately sends the calorie count up. For example: a baked potato contains 90 calories and 0 grams fats whereas if the same potato is deep fried it contains 320 calories and 17 grams fats. Huge difference you see!

 2)   Increase Trans Fats in Body:

Trans fats are also known as hydrogenated unsaturated fats. Deep fried foods are generally high in hydrogenated fats which allow the food to last longer. Trans fats are tough for our body to break down and lead to harmful effects on our health. Regular consumption of trans fats increases the risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and cancer. One should limit less than 1% of trans fats in daily calorie intake.

3)   Leads to Heart Disease:

Fried foods cause high blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes, all precipitating factors for heart diseases. As fried food contains harmful trans fatty acids it increases the bad cholesterol level that puts pressure on the heart.

The risk for younger people getting heart attack and heart failure are rising because of their regular consumption of deep fried food.

4)   Causes Diabetes:

Deep fried food with its high percentage of trans fats is a precursor for developing type 2 diabetes. Insulin resistance occurs in those people who eat these junk food often causing a serious problem to their health.

5)   Causes Obesity:

Due to more and more people adopting sedentary lifestyle obesity is becoming a rising epidemic. Deep fried food has a high calorie count and being full of trans fats they bolster weight gain which leads to other health problems.

6)   The Acrylamide Connection:

Acrylamide is, chemically, a process that happens during high-temperature cooking for instance, French fries. When food is cooked at very high heat, an amino acid ‘asparagine’ in the food reacts with sugars to produce acrylamide. It is especially common in potatoes, which are high in sugars like fructose and glucose. Acrylamide is capable of causing nerve damage in humans, including muscle weakness and impaired muscle coordination.

7)      Gut Microbes:

When we consume deep fried foods, our gut microbes get used to such a type of diet and they may crave for it. So our body demands more such food. This is just like getting trapped in a vicious cycle and the only way to break from it is to start eating healthier food options as soon as possible.

8)  Causes bloating and diarrhoea:

Among the micronutrients carbs, fats and proteins – fats get slowly digested by the body. As deep fried food contains high amounts of harmful trans fats they take more time in our stomach to get digested causing bloating, nausea and stomach pain. Those people who have digestive complaints like IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), or stomach bugs may cause stomach pain, cramping and diarrhoea as well.

Though deep fried food tastes delicious but we shouldn’t forget that it costs us our health. It’s a myth that only fried food can taste delicious, sauté, shallow fry, pan fry, and baking are also in the waiting list of making food tastier. It is just a matter of preference and habit.

Also remember, “Never deep fry in reused oils”. It is extremely bad for our health! Reheating cooking oil releases harmful toxins, increase the percentage of trans facts and becomes rancid that give rise to free radicals in the body  leading to inflammation – the root cause of many disease like obesity, diabetes and heart disease

It doesn’t mean one must completely avoid deep frying foods. If they have to be consumed it is always advisable to make these foods at home where we can control the type of oil that is being used.

Always prefer cold pressed oil over refined oil for deep frying purposes.  Cold Pressed Oils are the healthiest cooking oil because they contain high amounts of healthy fats – polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats (MUFA & PUFA) and retain all essential nutrients which is good for our heart’s overall health.

Healthy Roots cold pressed oils are the best cooking oil. They sell 100% pure and natural oil without any added chemicals in it. In their stores they provide LIVE EXTRACTION of oil for their customers fading away any doubt of adulterated oil sold to them.
